The New Yorker has an extremely interesting profile of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Jose Antonio Vargas was given unprecedented access to Zuck and conducted several interviews with him, his closest friends, and even his girlfriend.

I have to admit, I love Facebook. It’s one of the most important sites in the world. However, Zuck scares me a little bit. I’m not sure what his real intentions are or if we should all trust Facebook as much as we do. But then again, Google scares me in the same way.

One of the interesting things about Zuck is that his friends call him the “poorest rich person” they’ve ever met. He purposely slums it and never buys anything fancy. He drives an Acura that he bought two years ago and rents a home a he found on Craigslist.

The most surprising thing I read in the piece is that Zuckerberg is green-red color-blind. Blue is the dominant color on Facebook only because it’s a color he can see well.

This from the FriendFeed blog:

We are happy to announce that Facebook has acquired FriendFeed. As my mom explained to me, when two companies love each other very much, they form a structured investment vehicle…

The FriendFeed team is extremely excited to become a part of the talented Facebook team. We’ve always been great admirers of Facebook, and our companies share a common vision. Now we have the opportunity to bring many of the innovations we’ve developed at FriendFeed to Facebook’s 250 million users around the world and to work alongside Facebook’s passionate engineers to create even more ways for you to easily share with your friends online.

FriendFeed says all FF accounts will continue to operate as normal for the time being, but they’re in the process of working out the long-term integration of the two services.

I’m a big fan of Facebook and FF, so hopefully the two can somehow seamlessly merge and we can enjoy the best of both worlds.

MySpace was the first big social network to really break out and become a nation wide phenomenon. The MySpace craze was initially driven by kids and young people.

As a result, many professionals and other grown folks mistakenly believe social media and social networking is kiddie stuff. The truth is that many adults are on MySpace, but I’ll concede it’s mostly a younger crowd.

Facebook on the other hand is totally different. Facebook is the Myspace for grown-ups — only much better. Not only is Facebook a great way to stay connected with friends and family, but it’s also a great way to network, land jobs, and market products.

Companies not taking advantage of Facebook are at a distinct disadvantage that will only deepen over time.

Web Worker Daily has an excellent post that lists 32 ways to use Facebook for business. You should read it, bookmark it, and send it to friends.
