One thing the Internet certainly has no shortage of is advice about SEO. Bloggers in particular often times swear by certain SEO strategies which may or may not have any real value, but simply seem like they do. However, one source of advice on SEO is prized above all others. This source is prized because it holds the keys to the castle so to speak. SEO guys spend their time trying to figure out how to legally manipulate this source to get it to do what they want. The source I’m referring to is of course Google. When Google gives advice about how to get better search rankings on their search engine — you should do what they say.

Google’s oracle of all things SEO is a guy named Matt Cutts. He’s an engineer at Google and head of their webspam team. He wrote the original SafeSearch program for Google to protect kids from adult material. The bottom line is that Matt knows what the hell he’s talking about when it comes to Google and how to get better rankings.

Take a look at the following video. Matt Cutts talks in great detail about how to achieve better search rankings with your WordPress blog. This from the 2007 WordCamp in San Francisco, and even though it’s a couple years old the tips he gives remain just as true today.

Here’s an interesting interview with Darren Rowse, the founder of B5Media and ProBlogger.net. In only 6 years Darren has created a blog empire that receives more than 30 million page views a month, and in the process he’s become a foremost authority on blogging. Darren really is the blogging guru — and when he speaks you should listen.

If you’re just starting out in the world of Internet marketing, I highly recommend reading Darren’s blog ProBlogger because it’s one of the best Internet marketing blogs around. While ProBlogger primarily focuses on blogging, the site is jam packed with useful information that can be applied to any kind of website.

Yes, I agree the interviewer is lame — but what Darren says is what’s important.

Millions of people all across America and all around the world are now blogging. Some do it for fun and others for business, but whether in politics or on Wall Street, blogs are having a big impact.

Nevertheless, you still meet people from time to time who roll their eyes when you tell them you blog. Some are still under the impression that blogs are for brain dead kids who don’t have anything better to do.

Allowing yourself to believe such things could be costing your business a lot of money. The fact is that search engines love blogs and a well written blog can generate a substantial amount of traffic to your website.

Here’s an interesting interview with the CEO of StepForth Web Marketing in Virginia. He gives a very simple and easy to understand explanation for why you should blog.
